St Thomas's Street, Old Portsmouth

The extension, ground floor remodelling, and external landscaping of a Grade II listed building in Old Portsmouth.

Project Description

The existing house was a former conversion of a warehouse building to residential use in the mid 80’s. Facing on to St Thomas’s Street, the facade and street fronting interiors were the key to its listing, but the back areas and overgrown courtyard garden were not so attractive.

An extension was added in an industrial style that was in keeping with the former use, creating a new kitchen and dining space top lit with a lantern rooflight. The courtyard garden was transformed, pared back to its simplest form, with the original steel frame of the warehouse building retained. A timber theme was used to soften edges and it blends well with the historic brickwork.

‘Would definitely recommend Keith. He came out initially and we told him what we would like, Keith was very honest and told us that he didn’t think planning would approve it, so left us to rethink. We then contacted Keith again and he came out and with our new ideas started the process for planning. Keith took away all the hard work and kept us informed at every step. He was always at the end of a phone or email for any queries and responded very quickly. Great service!!’
